What is Microsoft Sway?

 What is Sway?

Sway makes it quick and easy to create and share interactive reports, presentations, personal stories, newsletters, magazines and more. It is very simple to use, users only need to add their content and Sway will do the rest. It is a Microsoft tool that is available for free, it is web-based but also has apps for iOS and Windows 10. You can go to sway.com and log in with your QMUL account details.

What can I do with this?

Instead of using Powerpoint or PDFs users can use Sway to make their presentations. Dr. Mar Encinas from Iberian and Latin American Studies (ILAS) at QM has created the first edition of their departmental magazine LA MAGA, published in Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese. Students have had an enthusiastic response to the magazine and the stimulus to see their texts published in an interactive format has contributed to improve their writing and reading skills in the target languages. This magazine could have been created in a PDF file but it wouldn’t have generated such interest and enthusiasm from students. Click on the next button to move forward.

See a sample Sway below, it incorporates animation, audio and video together with text and images in a presentation which is not possible (or easy to add) in Powerpoint or PDF. Click on the next button to move forward.

One of the main benefits of using Sway is that a user can just import their existing documents into Sway. Sway will convert headings into page headings and add other content in an interactive format. Also, Sways can be edited by multiple people.
